A Proposal to Heat UMaine with Landfill Gas

EcoGas LLC, a subsidiary of Casella Waste Systems, has applied for a permit to run a pipeline from the Juniper Ridge Landfill in Old Town, seven miles to the University of Maine in Orono. The pipeline would send methane gas from the landfill to run boilers and heat campus buildings, according to Mainebiz. The methane is estimated to save UMaine about $15 million over 20 years and cut its carbon emissions by 40%.
