PUC to Buy Maine-Made Tidal Power

The Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement  with Ocean Renewable Power Company of Portland, to purchase electric power generated from tidal energy in Cobscook Bay, beginning this summer. The  PUC also ordered Central Maine Power Co., Bangor Hydro Electric Co. and Maine Public Service Co. to negotiate contracts with ORPC to supply power to their customers. This agreement may make Maine the first state in the nation to supply its electricity grid with tidal power.
